About Lloyd Peeples
Lloyd Peeples is a distinguished attorney with over two decades of legal experience and contributions to both public service and the private sector. Currently serving as Senior Trial Counsel in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama, Lloyd has established himself as a respected leader in federal law enforcement and criminal justice.
Before attending law school, Lloyd earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Washington & Lee University in 1995. Lloyd obtained his Juris Doctorate degree in 1998 from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. His time at Cumberland was marked by academic excellence and leadership roles, including serving on the Cumberland Law Review and the Executive Board of the Trial Advocacy Board.
Lloyd’s legal career began as a Legislative Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee, where assisted the Committee with critical issues such as youth violence and antitrust laws. His role gave him valuable insights into the legislative processes and deepened his commitment to shaping policy through legal means. Following a clerkship with Chief Judge Tamara O. Mitchell in the United States Bankruptcy Court, Lloyd transitioned to private practice at Bradley Arant Rose & White, LLP.
In 2003, Lloyd joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama. Over the years, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Deputy Chief, Civil/Criminal Health Care Fraud Coordinator, Chief of the Criminal Division, and First Assistant United States Attorney. While serving as a manager, Lloyd also continued to prosecute complex federal crimes, including the kidnappers of Kamille (“Cupcake”) McKinney and Joran van der Sloot.
From 2012 until 2016, Lloyd served as Chief Executive Officer of Container Service Corporation, a corrugated container manufacturing company with over 100 employees conducting business in over five Southeastern states. Lloyd returned to public service in 2017 when Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney Jay Town recruited Lloyd to serve as his First Assistant, the second-highest ranking position in the Northern District of Alabama’s United States Attorney’s Office.
Lloyd Peeples’s influence extends beyond the courtroom, being involved in the National Association of Assistant United States Attorneys, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Birmingham Kiwanis Club, as a youth athletics coach in Vestavia Hills. In addition to Lloyd’s commitment to service in both the public and private sectors, Lloyd is a dedicated husband to Candi, his wife of twenty-three years, and father of two teenage children, Chandler (19) and Lily (16).
